Most of the popular music from the 20th Century and this beginning of the 21st Century, is built on loops or repeated sequence of chords. Most of these sequences have their origin in the medieval times, and later in the renaissance and baroque period: it was called “basso continuo” or ground bass; Basso Continuo is a bass line on which musicians used to improvise with their instruments, and later write down their own compositions. Some very popular examples are the “Follia” the “Ciaccona” and the “Passacaglia”.
With “Baroque Me Baby”, this music is totally improvised in a flexible ensemble of original historical instruments such as Lute, Spinetta, Harpsichord, Viola da Gamba, Recorder and so on, the very same way musicians used to do many centuries ago, and adapted to an environment that is different from the typical auditorium, such as modern art museums and fancy cafes in a sort of “If the mountain won’t come to Muhammad, Muhammad will have to go to the mountain”; and despite some of the pieces and the playing style might have a sort of “rock” or “jazz” feel, all the music is played strictly in the original early music style, with the so called “Historical Performance Practice”.
